Well, on the way back from getting school supplies, my mom decided to stop in at the local computer shop (Her old "MDG" computer is on its last legs with 512MB ram / P3). While she browsed around, I decided to look for some speakers to replace my dollar store ones...

I picked up the Logitech X-540 5.1 speakers at 59.99CAD+tax (on a 'back-to-school' type sale), rather that the Logitech X-230 2.1 which I was going to order from NCIX, at 59.99CAD+tax+shipping. One of the main factors in picking the one at the local shop is that if I don't like it, I can just go to the store for a refund, instead of worrying about shipping/etc.

The set comes with 5 satellites, three with shorter cables for front(L,R) and center, and then two with /much/ longer cables, for the back.

It also comes with a sub, which I'm currently trying to find the best place for... It's currently at my feet, alongside my computer. The one thing I dislike is that the sub's driver is exposed on the underside... I'm really ever going to be near the underside, but it's still a big no-no. My uncle builds speakers as a hobby, so I might ask him to try to bring something to cover it next time he comes over.

The sound quality is incredible, crisp and spot-on. I

One feature I like is the /corded/ remote (haha, I can't loose it!), which permits one to adjust the volume/bass, without having to open up kmix/alsamixer. There's also a headphone jack, which is useful if I want to listen to music on my headphones...

The speakers can also connect to a CD|DVD player/iPod/etc, as well as gaming system, which is a bonus.

All-and-all, excellent speakers!

PS: Sorry I don't have any pictures, our digital camera died, which also explains the temporary 'disappearance' of 'What is it?' from UWN. If you're looking for some, this review has quite a few.
